It’s no secret that Annapolis is one of the Mid-Atlantic’s most prized cities. You won’t find any other city quite like it — from its eclectic shopping and dining scene to its vibrant nightlife.

Annapolis is also home to a wide variety of special events that draw people in from across the area. And for those who call this city home, these events are just another bonus that comes with living in one of the region’s most sought-after destinations.

So whether you live in Annapolis or are just planning on passing through this May, these are the five events you won’t want to miss:

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Event (May 6)

On Saturday, May 6, at 11am, “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” kicks off at Blackwall Hitch. This fun event tasks men to walk a mile in women’s shoes as a playful way to shed light on a serious issue. Brookfield Residential is proud to sponsor this fantastic event, which directly supports The Bernie House’s mission of spreading awareness about the causes and effects of domestic violence.

First Sunday Arts Festival (May 7)

Aptly named for its recurring monthly appearance in the Arts District, the First Sunday Arts Festival features live entertainment and the works of 100 local and regional artists for you to enjoy as you stroll along West Street and Calvert Street. It’s free, and it’s the perfect way to unwind and cap off another great weekend in the city.

USNA Commissioning Week (May 19-26)

As the United States Naval Academy’s class of 2017 prepares to graduate, you’re invited to be a part of the week-long tradition known as Commissioning Week. Throughout the week, you can witness spectacular Blue Angels demonstrations, take a tour of the US Naval Academy and see the annual Color Parade.

Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival (May 20-21)

Whether you’re a blues fan or just love trying the tasty eats provided by some of the area’s best food vendors, you won’t want to miss the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival at Sandy Point State Park.

Annapolis Memorial Day Parade (May 29)

This is the perfect opportunity to honor all those who have served, as well as spend a relaxing day outside along the beautiful streets of Annapolis. The parade begins at 10am and is followed by the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Susan Campbell Park.
